Located in Zhejiang Province, Jiaxing is a historic watertown that is criss-crossed with canals, arch bridges and cobblestone streets. The Sales Gallery for Starlight One is set along a meandering river among a serene natural setting, from which we drew inspiration for the development.

At the entrance, guests will be greeted by an abstract form of water interpreted in a parametric wood wall with an organic rhythmic flow, which stretches from the lobby, through the sales hall, and finally to the causal sitting area. Ice green marble was selected as the main flooring material, which is reminiscent of cobblestone streets in the shadow of trees overhead.

Here, a sales team await at a cement finish reception desk, a solid rectangular piece that anchors the space; it sits in contrast with the long and wavy wooden parametric wall behind it. We brought the outdoors in by planted a large tree under a skylight to set the tone and ambience for guests to view the site model, the house models and to peruse information of the development.

At the end of the sales hall, four sitting areas are situated under a group of white pendant lights that cast soft, subtle light and shadow to the ceiling, providing guests with a relaxing space in which to learn more about the development. We designed a parametric wooden bar counter that floats in this space, with the contours of abstract mountains in the background.

A circular staircase brings guests downstairs – a grand descent met with impressive views of the sunken landscape and a double-height green wall. In the basement, we created a sitting hall with a crisp white metal ceiling that portrays the river. Wooden panels on three sides housing randomly placed miniature trapezium lights represent willow trees.

The pathway to the two VIP rooms is a progression of a series of wooden single arches, with ground floor lights to amplify its form. These private rooms are lined with washi paper and vertical wooden strips, showcasing a composed yet tranquil setting should more in-depth conversation be required.

With mesmerising surroundings reinterpreted and incorporated into our design, we hope that guests are as inspired as we are by the beautiful landscapes of Jiaxing – and of Starlight One.
